Snow Moon rising, Glastonbury Tor

The forecast was far from favourable, and sure enough as we approached the critical time on site, there was over 99% cloud cover. It also just so happened that that <1% sliver of clear sky was perfectly placed... I get very few chances to get a full moonrise/moonset at a similar time to the sunset/sunrise, partly because of timings, but primarily because of the UK weather (especially for those in the South West of England). We absolutely hit the jackpot with this one, not only was the moon in the (mostly) clear patch of sky, but we also captured a plane transiting the moon. It's funny really, I've been trying for the last 2-3 years to capture a plane/moon transit, including spending hours looking at flight trackers and then dashing outside, with zero successful attempts. Then this happens, by complete fluke, during a moonrise shoot with a nice foreground. There were 4 of us on site, and none of us could quite believe what had happened, and all 4 of us managed to get it. It's nice capturing such things, but there's something special about being able to share it with others.

A short series of frames were stacked to reduce noise for this final result, and also to show both the plane and the birds. The frames were taken within a 10s period using 2 cameras at once. This is effectively a time-blend with all parts taken within a short time frame. So it is 'real'.

I look forward to the next one...
